Truncation
Thursday August 07th, 2008From Library Instruction Wiki
Truncation is something else that can be tricky. Here is one I learned from a Spanish teacher, showing different verb endings. She wrote the root word in white chalk, and then listed the various suffixes in color, down from the root. Very simple, very effective.
So, to demonstrate truncation, I now write the word
Forest* in one color, and under it have, in another color
s
ry
ers
ation
They get it. Then, to double check, I ask if forest* will find Lumbering? No- because computers are like Olympic athletes- FAST and STUPID. Always good for a laugh. Not recommended in PE classes.
