From Library Instruction Wiki

I needed a quick way to visually show the difference between AND and OR . I had a handout with a Venn diagram, but there's always some students for whom that does not quite do it. So I ended up using this site, which lets you do simultaneous searches in Yahoo.

Yahoo Battle (http://www.ooer.com/yahoobattle/index.php)

In one box I connected my keywords with AND in the other the same keywords, but OR. Then I polled the class on which side they thought would "win." I had about a 50-50 split in the class. So after I ran the search, I asked one of the students who had gotten the answer right to explain why the OR search retrieved more results. It was a pretty effective way to supplement my regular instruction about connecting keywords. --amd 18:26, 27 Feb 2006 (America/Los_angeles)
